Attention Power

Attention Power –

Focus on the good

“You cannot always control what goes on outside, but you can always control what goes on inside.” – Wayne Dyer

What you can control: Your thoughts, attitude and behavior

What you cannot control: the weather, news and social media

“Energy flows where attention goes.” – Tony Robbins

Every moment of every day we have a choice to direct our attention to the good things in life or the bad things that are happening, did happen or might happen. Avoid making the mistake of allowing your attention to be focused on the what you cannot control or change. When you find yourself consumed by negative thoughts use the following list to redirect your focus.

Practice Gratitude

  • Get a small notebook and write down three things you are thankful for.
  • Tell someone how much you appreciate them. You can call, text or send a note. Letter writing is becoming a lost art. People will remember the kind words you send in a card or letter through the mail.
  • Create a journal dedicated to one special person in your life. Write down on reason you are thankful that this person is a part of your life. Start today, write one thought a day for a period of 30 days and give it to the person a month from now.

Move

  • I know you know that some type of exercise 3 to 5 times a week will improve your overall health. If you don’t have an exercise routine begin today. Find something you like to do and put it on your schedule. What gets scheduled gets done.
  • Put on some music and move to the beat, you know dance! Invite your friends to a virtual dance party. If you live with other people have a contest to see you can invent the funniest dance.
  • Change your position. When negative thoughts invade your mind, get up and move. Stretch, go for a brisk walk, or simply stand up.

Limit

  • Spend no more than 15 minutes watching the news.
  • Spend no more than 15 minutes checking social media channels.
  • Block negative people and follow those who offer encouraging and inspirational messages.
